Alice in Wonderland continued to do amazing business on Monday, grossing $9 million, with an average of $2,416 per screen even though kids were busy elsewhere, according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. After only four days, Tim Burton’s fantasy blockbuster has amassed $125 million at the domestic box office.
Alice in Wonderland stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, and the voices of Stephen Fry, Barbara Windsor, and Michael Sheen.
At a very distant #2, Antoine Fuqua’s cop drama Brooklyn’s Finest, starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, and Wesley Snipes, earned $1.07 million. At #3, Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo, took in $1.01 million. Martin Scorsese’s thriller should be crossing the $100 million mark before the weekend.

Still hanging in there, James Cameron’s Avatar grossed $814K at #4, despite having fallen below the $1 million-per-day mark. The Oscars — the sci-fier won three in the technical categories — didn’t do much for its box office as it lost business (67%) just like the vast majority of the other top-twelve films.

The #5 movie was Kevin Smith’s comedy Cop Out, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, with only $671K on Day Eleven. Breck Eisner’s horror flick The Crazies, with Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell, was next with $591K.

At #7, Jeff Bridges‘ Crazy Heart earned $377K. The Oscars for Best Actor and for Best Song (T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham’s “The Weary Kind”) did help this drama about a troubled country singer. Crazy Heart suffered the second smallest drop (50.6%) among Monday’s top-twelve films. The smallest one was that of The Blind Side (43.1%), which earned Sandra Bullock the Best Actress Oscar.

Chris Columbus‘ adventure flick Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, starring Logan Lerman, suffered the steepest drop (80.1%), grossing only $269K at #8. Garry Marshall’s all-star Valentine’s Day was next with $253K. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Taylor Lautner, Eric Dane, Carter Jenkins, Taylor Swift, and many others.

Rounding out the top twelve were the Channing Tatum-Amanda Seyfried romantic melodrama Dear John ($198K), Sandra Bullock’s The Blind Side ($162K), and Benicio del Toro’s The Wolfman ($155K).

Incredibly, the Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart-Taylor Lautner supernatural drama The Twilight Saga: New Moon is still making money after 109 days out. True, it’s only a trickle — $15,130 — but the film will still be playing when Pattinson’s first major non-vampire vehicle, Remember Me, opens on Friday. To date, New Moon has grossed $296.3 million.
